Bath Digital Festival 2019

I always try and make time to attend a few talks at the Bath Digital Festival. A pass only costs £15 (or if you’re quick like me, an early bird pass is £10). It’s a real bargain with over 80 talks so there are always plenty of events to choose from.

Last week, I had a very productive Tuesday in Bath - fitting in three talks plus two client meetings.

All talks imparted words of wisdom; but in the interests of brevity and focus, I thought I would share one key fact or tip from each one...

1. At Amazon, all new innovations start with a dummy press release. They don't start any development work until they have written and evaluated this. Why? Because it makes them put the customer first, it ensures any new development is jargon free and easy to explain the uninitiated.

2. At the Winning with Video talk, the key bit of market data was that 85% of videos viewed online are silent. So sub-titles are essential.

3. Does anyone read on the web anymore? Yes because there are many ways to absorb information of which reading is one. The top tip here is to use your microphone on your smartphone keyboard to dictate your blog idea. It also has the added benefit of making the words more conversational than if you write the down long hand.
