Why choose Shopify for your e-commerce store?

I use both Squarespace and Shopify for building e-commerce stores. My recommendation would be based on what you are selling and how much flexibility you require.

Squarespace is quick to set up, good for smaller ranges and has slicker design options.

Shopify is better for larger online stores where you need more flexibility with product types, discounts, delivery and the checkout process.

Here is a brief summary explaining why:

  • Shopify is a dedicated e-commerce platform which securely hosts product details, inventory and customer information.

  • It offers good design, intuitive layouts and an easy to use & secure checkout process for customers.

  • It’s flexible. It provides full access to the code so we can adapt the website design and usability.

  • Shopify regularly update an improve the software. It is now the most popular platform for building online stores.

  • Shopify has a wide range of external plug-ins and apps which give further flexibility. This will be particularly important for building the product search functionality.

  • Managing the store is simple. One log-in screen, one dashboard, a clear menu and the functionality to update product ranges using a formatted .csv spreadsheet file.

  • Manage multiple store channels - across both online and retail stores (this is made even simpler if you use Shopify EPOS functionality).

  • Shopify is scaleable - from a boutique store selling a small range of products up to an enterprise business with thousands of products.

  • A free mobile app is available. You can manage inventories, fulfil orders, update products and access customer data.

  • SSL Secure certificate and PCI compliance is included.

  • It will help give you peace of mind that your website is securely hosted on

    a robust platform.

  • Shopify is portable should you want to move to different web designers.
