The best albums of 2023


This could be a long list… it’s been a very good year for new releases. I hope this means you will discover at least one new album you missed this year.

Something that stands out is the number of artists who first made their name in the 90s appearing. Perhaps that’s a sad indictment on me not opening my ears to new music? Except there are one or two new bands here, and if you look at previous years there is good smattering of contemporary music. Maybe it’s just one of those years.

Suede at the O2 in Bristol (March). Still releasing albums as good as when they emerged 30+ years ago. Still giving it their all. Happily playing the old songs and transporting us back to our youthful selves.
